PUBLIC BATHS.

To-day, the public baths, at Grahamstown Wharf, which the enteipriso of Mr Curtis lias called into existence (to which we called attention in a recent issue) will be opened to-day. The accommodation appears to be excellent. ' There are twenty-four dressing-rooms, very neatly and appropriately fitted up. The place for bathers is 66 feet by 40 feet, and at high water there is a depth of 12 feet of water. Every convenience and appliance in the shape of spring-hoards, steps, lifebuoys, &c., have been provided, and the comfort of the bathers has been evidently studied throughout. Two refreshment rooms are in course of completion, and will lie ready for use on Friday, on which day we understand some cups will be competed for by competitive swimmers. The building reflects much credit upon Mr Curtis ; upon Mr Gould, the builder ; and all concerned in the work. The expense incurred in the construction of these baths is about £SOO, and if a liberal return does not accrue to Mr Curtis for the outlay he has incurred we shall be much surprised, as these baths will furnish a want long felt at the Thames, especially in sucli warm and dusty weather as we are now experiencing. The building lias been most substantially constructed, and yesterday when the wind was high and the sea rather rough, there was scarcely any motion whatever percejitible by those standing on the platform. The price of admission to the bath is sixpence, wharf toll included, which brings the great luxury of a sea bath, with all appliances for its comfortable enjoyment, within the reach of everybody.
