TROTTING MATCH.

Yesterday, a trotting match took place at Tarnru, between three local steeds, one at least of which is likely to he well known to fame, this being the second match he has pulled off here lately. The horses who trotted were Mr Jones’s bay mare, ridden by D. Taylor ; Mr De Hirsch’s bay mare, liddcn by a lad ; and Hogan’s brown horse, piloted by Lundon. Jones’s man broke at the start, and it soon became evident that she was too spirited and excited to stand a chance of winning, breaking sevoral times, especially when near the crowd. The old lioisc took the lead from the first, closely followed by De Hirsch’s pony, and kept it throughout, winning by some 15 or 20 yards. As one bystander remarked, the old horse aeoms never to have done anything else in his life but trot, and no idea of his breaking entered into anyone’s head. The pony trotted well, but her action is too high for a fast goer, and she was well ridden by the lad who was on her. The stakes were £2O each, the second to receive £lO. Besides this, there was a large amount staked in outside bets, and the winners netted a nice round sum on the afternoon’s fun.
