In the schedule of contributors in the Tradesman’s Goldmining Company, which was brought up, Mr Cucksey applied to have his name struck oil, on the ground that although an original shareholder, he had not consented to the new issue of shares. Mr Rees said that if the objection was permitted the other shareholders might raise the same objection. Mr Cucksey’s name was struck oil the list. An inquest on 1 lie destruction of the Music Hall by lire was held, and resulted in a verdict of incendiarism. At the inquest Mr Inspector Broham deposed that only four policemen were available for night duty in Auckland, and three of those were stationed in Queen-street. The jury added a rider recommending an increase in the force. In the Provincial Council, Air Carleton’s motion was postponed until the 20th. In reply to Mr Iluckland, the Provincial Secretary said the Executive could not form a rifle range at the Thames. It was a matter for the General Government. Mr Buckland said lie would take out an injunction against the use of the present range, as it was dangerous to life. On the Volunteer estimate the vote for iBiOO was postponed, order to amend by inserting double the amount. The Education Bill was read a first time. In the Sharcmarket there arc buyers of Caledonians at £72 10s, and sellers at £75. Thames, buyers at £lO 10s. Tookcys, sellers at £27. It is believed that the fire in Victoriastreet, at Ilawkeswood’s foundry, was purely accidental.
