CHRISTMAS SPORTS.
A meeting was held at the European Hotel yesterday evening of gentlemen interested in promoting Christmas sports. Mr Elirenfried in the chair. After some preliminary arrangements, the following gentlemen were chosen to act as a committee :—Messrs Warmoll, 11. Mackenzie, J. Rountree, Gilligan, JMcLachlan, Ballin, Robinson, Clarke, Martin, Elirenfried, Pies.se, Berry, Twohill. —It was proposed and agreed that lists should he printed and handed to the members of the committee to obtain subscriptions. —Mr McLouglian proposed that £l5O he expended on the sports, and the remaining amount on horse-racing. Mr Robb proposed as an amendment that £IOO he expended on horse-racing, and the remainder on the sports. —This amendment was withdrawn, and the original motion carried.—Mr Gilligan proposed that the sports he held at Tararu.—This was seconded by Mr Skene.—Several gentlemen spoke in favour of’tlie sports being held at Parawai; hut it was ultimately decided that Mr Gilligan’s proposition should be carried out. —Mr Gilligan stated that £55 had been guaranteed to him if the sports were held at Tararu. —Mr Rountree proposed that Messrs McLouglian, Gilligan, Rountree, Manuel, 11. Mackenzie, McMillan. Twohill, Pearse, Berry, Steadman, Ballin, be the working committee. This was seconded, put, and carried.—lt was proposed that p.ogrammes he published in the local papers, and subscription lists opened.—Mr Gilligan proposed, and Mr Manuel seconded, that Mr 11. Mackenzie he appointed secret..ry for the Sports Committee. —This was carried. It was also proposed and seconded that Mr McMillan he requested to act as treasurer. The meeting Was then adjourned until Friday evening next.
