FIRE BRIGADE.
A numerously-attended meeting of the Fire Brigade was held last evening at the Governor Bowen Hotel, Mr Bull in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman having :ead the advertisement convening the meeting, and said the principal business was the adoption of rules. It was desired to form a club so that in the event of any man being injured at a fire or falling wall, there would be a fund of their own to fall back upon, and if the thing progressed there might be funds to spare for investment in the way that the Odd Fellows and Foresters and other benefit societies had. The rules which were in accordance, with a few slight exceptions,with the Wellington Fire Brigade were read. It was resolved that a Fire Brigade fund he established, to provide for accidents occurring at fires or practices, &e., and that each man subscribe Is. per month thereto.
It was here suggested by Mr. Robinson that if the Society became a benefit society, it must be registered under the Act. Some discussion ensued, and it was proposed to postpone the registration question until there were funds in hand, and for the present to arrange preliminaries. Mr. Bull was then elected treasurer, and Mr. Honiss secretary. The following gentlemen were appointed a committeo to draw up rules, &c., for the management of the fund : Messrs Alexander, Halloran, Brian, Neill, Whelan, and the officers of the Brigade. It was resolved that on Friday evening next, at half-past 7 o’clock, at the Governor Bowen Hotel, the committee meet. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
