MINING BOARD.
A meeting of the Mining Board was held last evening. Present—Mr. A. Hays (in tile chair), and Messrs. A. Daly, J. D. Wickham, E. H. Power, W. S. Greenville. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COF.RESI’ON DENCK. The following letter from Mr. C. O’Neill, M.11.U., was read : House of Representatives, Wellington, November 14, 1871. Sir,—l have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the Ist, and petition from the chairman and members of the Mining Board against the passing of the Goldinining Districts Bill. I now beg to inform you that I duly presented the petition to the House of Representatives. I have further to inform you that previous to the reception of the petition the Goldmining District Bill had passed nil its stages in botli branches of the Legislature, and lias now received the Governor’s assent. I have forwarded to to the chairman by this mail the report of the Gold Fields Committee. I have, &c., Ciias. O’Neill. W. Lcchner, Esq., Secretary Mining Board. On tho motion of Mr Greenville, seconded by Mr. Daly, the Secretary was requested to acknowledge the receipt of the letter with thanks. An amendment by Mr Wickham seconded by Mr Power, omitting the words “ with thanks,” was lost. ELECTION of secretary. Tho next business was the election of a secretary. Mr. E. H. Power said he presumed the life of the Board was getting a short one, as it bad only about a month to live, and he begged to move that Sir. Lechncr be continued in office. Mr. Greenville seconded the motion, which was put and carried, and the motion calling for tenders for the office was rescinded. Mr. Leciiner thanked the Board, saying . he would do all he could to give satisfaction. THANKS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT. Mr Greenville said he begged to move that the Board returns a vote of thanks to T. B. Gillies, Esq., for bis courtesy in answering the correspondence of this Board, and for the interest he has taken in the welfare of this goldfield (luring the session of the Geneaal Assembly. The Chairman replied that the motion was not in order, and that it had better ho deferred until next meeting. The meeting then adjourned.
