GOLDMINING MEETING.
MEETING OF THE NONPAREIL V G.M.C. (from our own correspondent.) A meeting of the shareholders of the Nonpareil Goldmining Company was held at the Metropolitan Hotel, Auckland, ;yesterday,.-Mr. Stovin in the chair. There were about 40 shareholders present. The Chairman stated that the meeting had been called in consequence of certain rumours afloat to the effect that the directors of the Nonpareil company had resolved to do their best to secure the amalgamation of that company with the Waitemata. .company. This had in a measure been confirmed from the fact that some of the directors in
the Nonpareil had been purchasing Waitematas at a low figure, through the legal manager of the company, with * the apparent intention of making money bgj>an amalgamation of jthe two mines, and th'tis raising-'the-valuer of the Waitematas by depressing Nonpareils. It was known that the legal manager had purchased .1,300 matas. The question now was—would such an amalgamation be fair to Nonparcil--holders-■ ,„For his (the fenainmrti’S-) part he cfiuld only liken -the Nonpareil to-a fine well-built houseyadding to it a wing of rotten, wormeaten wood. Looking at the circumstances of the case; they should .h’ear ■ what the directors had to say. They very possibly had good reasons why an amalgamation should take place, and if so, the directors should come forward and place the whole matter before the shareholders. He thought that 50 shares of the Waitemata to one of the Nonpareil would be a disadvantageous exchange for the Nonpareil shareholders. Several others addressed the meeting, and a very strong feeling was exhibited by all present against any amalgamation of the two companies. On the motion-of Mr Gray, seconded by Mr Smith, it. was agreed that the "Chairman should communicate with the directors the disapprobation of the meeting with reference to any amalgamation between these two companies, and asking for an intimation of the directors’ views on the matter. The meeting then adjourned till Tuesday next. AUCKLAND SHIPPING.
