LATER SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.
——o Wellington, October 20. A passenger named W. H. Ray, from Dunedin to Wellington, jumped overboard during the passage from Dunedin. The sea was running high. Ho was drowned. Leaves a wife and five children, the oldest only seven years old. ' Supposed to have been suffering from delirium tremens. Dunedin, October 20. Geo. Wells, a commission agent, has poisoned himself with sulphate of zinc. A verdict of temporary insanity has been recorded. Invercargill, October 20. The inquiry into the late fire continued three days, and a verdict “ That the fire was first seen between the Bank of Otago and Hunter’s and Hawshaw’s store, but there is no evidence to show how it originated ” was returned.
