THE CHESS CONGRESS.

The last game in the chess tournament at Wellington was played on Monday between Edwards and Barnes, and fell to the former, giving him third prize. The complete score for the congress is as follows :

An intimation has been received that Lasker, Ihe chess champion, who proposed visi'iug the colonies, has had to abandon or postpone his visit, as he has not yet recovered from an attack of typhoid fever.

THE ARMENIAN ATROCITIES. Londox, Jan. C. Further details of the massacres in Armenia relate that the Turkish soldiery put out the eyes of Armenian priosts with hot irons, and compelled them to dance, which they did, at the same time praising God. It is asserted ihat others were flayed alive. It ia reported that Zakki Pasha has offered the Armenians in the Sassjuu district an amnesty if they will return to their homes. Jan. 7. It is alleged that in pursuance of Zakki Pasha's offer of an amnesty if they would return to their homes, the delegation of sixty Armenians tendered their submission. The unfortunate people were treacherously seized by the Turks, tortured, and killed. Their bodies were then thrown into a well. The Standard's correspondent at Constantinople reports that the Sultan has ordered Rustem Pasha, Ambassador iu Loudon, to telegraph the text of Mr Gladstone's speech to the Armenian delegates. He was simply furious at the tone of the ex-Premier's remark, which will iucrease the diplomatic difficulty tenfold, and probably be a barrier to the enforcements of reforms.
