THE COREAN TROUBLE.
Shanghai, Oct, 30. The Japanese have captured one fort at Port Arthur. The Chinese encamped on the banks of the Yalu river have retreated to Monkden. A decree has been issued permitting all vessels to carry rice, as it is believed that a famine will be experienced before the winter. Generals Weh and Yeh have been deprived of their rank owing to cowardice in the fight against the Japanese at Ping Yang. Nov. 1. After the victory lit Kulien Chan, the Japanese captured Tatung along with twenty cannon, a large number of rifles, and a quantity of ammunition. Pekin, Oct. 31. It is alleged that the young Empress of China, whose death is announced, committed suicide owing to the Emperor; slapping her face in public.
