ACCIDENTS, OFFENCES, ETC.
At Auckland three young men named Robert Martin, Michael O’Brien, and George Murphy were committed for trial on a charge of assaulting sfdd robbing an old man named John "Watson. At Dunedin aft the inquiry touching the fire on the Mararoa, on the 17th inst., ■ the jury returned a verdict that “ The Mararoa was wilfully set on fire, but there is not sufficient evidence to show by [ whom.” At the Invercargill Police Court a half- [ demented man, named J. Marisco, was committed for trial for criminally assaulting a girl eight years of age. j Of the young men charged with being J concerned in the outrage on a woman in I Chew’s Lane, Wellington, W. Wright, 1 McDonald, Swede, and Sandbrook were ) discharged. James Wright, Miners, aud 1 Margin were committed for trial, bail 5 being allowed. j. At Wellington a boy named Watt, aged L 16, was drowned in the Kilbirnie baths t He was evidently seized with cramp. At Dunedin Mary Knox, licensee of the Universal Hotel, was fined 50s, and costs, for refusing to admit the police promptly, _
