TEMUKA FIRE BRIGADE.

At a meeting of the Temuka Fire Brigade held last evening, the following letter was received:— . ,

"To the Captain and Mergbers of the Temuka Volunteer Fire Brigade.

"We, the undersigned ratepayers, respectfully request that you will withdraw your resignation until the public meeting (which the Town Board contemplates calling) takes place, and expresses an opinion on the points at issue.— J. S. Hayes, John W. Salmond, J. M. Twomey, J. Harrison, Walter 0-. Rutland, J. W. Miles, J. A. McCaskill, David Taylor, H. J. Lnxford. Edwin Herbert, H. T. Clinch, J. Whitehead & Son, W. C. Roulston, E. Brown, W. G. Aspinall, John Sim, Jeremiah Tangney, John R. Andrews."

The subject was discussed at some length, and finally it was resolved—" That in compliance with the requisition signed by Dr Hayes and others, this brigade hereby resolves to defer its final diabandment until after a meeting of ratepayers, and will in the meantime retain possession of the plant and books of the brigade." A letter to this effect was order ad to be sent to the chairman of the Temuka Town Board. On account of the treasurer's absence the fire brigade were unable to present the ratepayers with a balance sheet at present, but will take an early opportunity of publishing same. The meeting then terminated.
