AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The first meeting of the newly-elected members of the above board was held last evening.—Present—Messrs J. Ashwell, E. Carr, E. Brown, A. Frew, and A. Russell. MBCriON OF CHAIRMAN. On the motion of Mr Russell, seconded by Mr Brown, Mr Ashwell was elected chairman, and briefly returned thanks. ELECTION OF CLERK AND OVERSEER. Mr Frew proposed—" That Mr Pilbrow be re-elected clerk and overseer." Mr Carr seconded the motion and it was carried unauimously. Mr Pilbrow briefly returned thanks for the honor the board had done him in re-appointing him, and he would do his best in his copacity as clerk and overseer. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Wm. Smith, Otaio, bearing on the subject of sections 123 and 147, in re the board's rates. The sections had been sold by Mr H. B. Johnston some years ago, and present occupiers should bear the rates, and their names put on the roll.—The clerk had attended to same.
From Mr F. W. Gnnnell, enclosing 2s for rates.
From Mrs C. A. Dunn, Havelock North, Hawkes Bay, enclosing amount for rates.
From Mr W. Dearsley, on the subject of rates.—The clerk had replied. From Mr G. H. Barrett, askiug that Section 122 be transferred to Mrs A. Barrett.—lt appeared that no such person’s name had been on the roll for years, and the sections were in the name of Mr J. Barrett.—Nothing could be done until his assent was obtained. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £37 13s Id were passed for payment. The board then went into committee.
