SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

KAKAHU BUSH. At a meeting of householders held on Monday evening, Mr Alexander Maxwell, chairman of the outgoing committee, wa* called upon to preside. The minutes of the last annual meeting were confirmed, and the annual report and balance-sheet adopted. The following were elected a committee : Messrs S. E. Graham, H. C. Wreathall, A. Maxwell, J. W. Jones, and W. Mill. At the meeting of the committee held immediately afterwards, on the motion of Mr Graham, seconded by Mr Jones, Mr Maxwell was elected chairman. After routine business and the passing of a few accounts the meeting closed.

SOUTH RANGITATA. At the annual meeting of householders of the South Rangitata School District on Monday evening last there was a very good attendance. Mr D. Taylor was called upon to preside. The secretary read the minutes of the ladt annual meeting, and the report and balancesheet for the past year, which were adopted without comment. The report showed that the school attendance was good, that school work was progressing favorably, and that the committee had a credit balance of £ 6 10s. The re-naming of the school was then proceeded with, there being two names suggested, Pakihi and Orton. The name was selected by ballot, Mr J. M. Naughton and Mr D. Pierce were appointed scrutineers. The result was a majority of 9 for Pakihi, 26 to 17. The next business was the election of a school committee. There were 13 nominations, and the result was as follows : W. Rainey, 18; W. Snushail, 18; Duncan Taylor, 17; John Robertson, 17; Francis Brown, 17; Thomas Cadwallader, 18; Peter Bain, 16; John Airay, 10; James Northam, 9; B. B. Amyes, 8; T. Dorward, 8; H. Waller, 7; R. Kelley, 6. The chairman declared the first seven duly elected, and the meeting terminated. At a meeting of the new committee Mr D. Taylor was re-elected chairman, and Mr R. Irwin secretary.
