THE RUSSIAN FLEET IN FRANCE.
Paris, Oct. 18. The Russian sailors were received with delirious enthusiasm on their arrival in Paris. Fully 100,000 people were in the streets. The officers were escorted to the official residence of the President at the Elysoe in a triumphal procession of astounding proportions. During their passage through the streets they received continued ovations of a most frenzied and ridiculous character from the inhabitants, who seemed for the time being to have taken leave of their senses. Well dressed ladies were to be seen everywhere embracing the Russians in the streets. President Carnot gave the visitors a warm welcome on arrival at the Elysoe, but his speech was of a pacific nature. The Czar and President Carnot have exchanged telegrams of a cordial nature respecting the visit and reception of the Russian fleet. London, Oct. 17. The Pall Mall Gazette’s correspondent says that the visit of the Russians has turned Paris into an inland sea of tears of joy. The freaks of the people are amazingly amusing, and the utterances of the press perfectly hysterical.
