The Welcome Retreat Good Templar Lodge, Geraldine, held their first open lodge of the winter season on Monday evening, and were rewarded with a very gratifying attendance. The chair was taken by Bro. R H -.in nmnd, C.T., who, after the opening od «, made a few remarks on lodge work. Bro. Dalton, District Deputy, gave the opening address on the utility of a lodge, and the need of earnest workers. A chorus “ While the days are Going By ” came next, and Mr T. Bowkett sang “ Remember you have children of your Own.” Sister Mary Billings recited “ The Orphan Children,” and Miss Willoughby followed with an earnest and persausive address to temperance people and sympathisers with the temperance cause. Miss Willoughby was given a very attentive hairing Chorus, “ Long in Darkness ” ; duet, “ Some time we’ll Understand ” Sisters Edina Sherratt and Emily Maslin ; song, “The Harbour Bell,” Mr Robson and chorus; chorus, “Welcome Wander Welcome.” Buns and coffee were then handed round, and after that the second part was opened with the chorus “ The Banner of the Cross” Sister Ellen Bowkett gave a recitation, and Mr Robson sang “ A Boy’s best friend is his Mother.” The Rev. W. C. Woodward was the next speaker, and in a hum >rous manner pointed out the many mistakes made by men and women, and closed by turning attention to the serious mistakes parents made with regard to their children and the liquor traffic. Mr Woodward made a strong appeal on behalf of the Temperance cause, and his words were well received, and loudly applauded. The rest of the programme was made by a song “ Bonnie Scotland,” Bro. Gore ; Song, “ Don’t go near the bar room, Brother,” Sister Gertie Fyfe; song, “ Will your anchor hold,” Bro. Willoughby’ Bro. Baxter proposed a hearty vote of thanke to all who hal helped in the meeting, and then the closing ode was sung.
