CONCERT AT HILTON.

The Hilton people went in for a new adventure this year, in the shape of a tea, concert, and dance, and it turned out to be the most succe- ifol affair held in the district for years. About 150 sat down to tea to a splendid spread presided over by the Misses Kelland, Earl, Bradley, Connolly, Campbell, and Hawkes. At the concert Mr Skinner took the chair, and made a few opening remarks relative to the school. Miss Andrews opened the programme with a pianoforte solo. Mr Herdman, who was in good voice, sang “ Afton Water ” with good expression. Miss Maggie Morrison sang “ The Song that Reached my Heart” very nicely. Mr Macdonald sang “ EnuYcorthy,” and in response to a vigorous encore repeated the last verse. The next item was a recitation by Nelly Leary, “ The Slave’s Dream.” Mr Hawkes sang a comic song, and iu response to an encore gave “ I” 1 . Conquer or Dit-” Miss Andrews sang “Gay Robin Redcoat,” and was loudly applauded. Mr Cochrane sang “ScotKud Yet.” Mr McCaskill sang “ Dear me, is that Possible 1 ” and in response to an encore “ The Wearing of the Green.” Miss Jessie Morrison “I’ll take you home again Ka'hJeen,” Miss Fish sang “The old folks at Homo” very uicely. Recitation, Albyn Bradley. Mr Robson sang “ The Boys in Blue,” Mias Meredith “ Mona,” and Mr Allen sang a comic Scotch song, and responded with another. Mr Exlcy sang “Hush a by Baby,” and was encored, The first part was concluded by xhe school children singing “Home Sweet Home.” Miss Andrews opened the second part with a piano solo; Mr Herdman then gang “ Yes let me like a soldier fall. Miss Meredith and Mr Hawkes sang a duet “ All’s Well ” ; Mr Macdonald recited “ How we beat the favorite.” The next item was a dialogue by Nellie Beattie and Bridget Leary. Mr Hawkes recited « Hodge and the Parson ” ; and Mias Maggie Morrison sang “Fa- away.” Mr Cochrane sang (< The Baird of Cockpen,” and Mr McCaskill “ The pardon and the dark.” Duet by Mary Beattie and Nelli® Leary. Song, “ The Gauntlet ” by Mr Robson. Song by Miss Jessie Morrison “ Barney take me home again.” Mr Exley was encored for a comic song, and repeated the last vn'se Song by Mr Allen “ Up to Dick,” which w;m also .encored. The children then sang the New Zealand “ National Anthem,” and Miss Maggie Morrison, by request, sang “ Killarney is a pretty place,” Mr Skinner proposed a hearty vote (St thanks to all who bad taken part in the programme. Mr Hawkes responed on behalf of the visitors. Votes of thanks were also passed to the caterer, Mr McCaskiT, and to Mr Meredith for the use of his piano. The concert concluded with three cheers for the chairman, and by singing Auld Lang Syne. A large number stayed to the dance which was held afterwards.
