London, Oct. 24. The Socialists at Bradford have declined the offer of the mill-owners to provide the means of running the mills on lines laid down by the Socialist* themselves.
Sydney, Oct. 24. A UUftiber of brutal assaults were comWfced on free labourers at Broken Hill on Saturday, and several arrests have been made. A rumour which is in circulation to the effect that the strike will shortly be declared oft' is denied. At a meeting of miners it was unanimously decided to fight on. The new general agreement between coalminers and owners at Newcastle has been drafted. It provides that all disputes shall be submitted to referees appointed by the Chief Justice. Wages are to be regulated by the selling price of coal, and the Bight Hours System is to be observed. The miners' delegates will oonsider the agreement during the week. Oct. 25. The trial of the Broken Hill strike leaders has begun at Deniliquin. Fiftyfour jurors were challenged, and eleven farmers are included in the jury. An official telegram from the Magistrate at Broken Hill states that the miners admit they are beaten but the main body refuse to resume work. The men are in a dangerously aggressive mood, and the police are more required than ever, Adelaide, Oct. 25. The South Australian Register estimates that the Broken Hill strike will result in a loss of £200,000 to the railway and Customs revenue.
