INTERCOLONIAL SHOOTING.
Sydney, Oct. 17. The New South Wales Rifle Association meeting opened to-day. The weather was fine but windy. The first stage, 300yds and 500yds, of the Queen’s Match was finished, Kruse, of Wanganui, being top scorer with 64. Ross (Napier) 60, Doughty (Auckland) 58, and Weir (Thames) 37, were also prize winners. The first prize was £7. Oct. 18. Hawker, of Victoria, won the first prize of £9 in the second stage of the 500yds, and the 600yds of the Queen’s Match with a score of 64. Kruse, of Wanganui, and Kait, of Wellington, who were 52 each, were among the prize-winners. A private letter from one of the men attending the New South Wales Rifle Association’s meeting, states that the Auckland and Wellington men, Weir, Doughty, McCarthy, Webster, Brown, Kait, A. Ballinger,Kruse, and Kuchen, with Ross, of Napier, and Purnell of Wanganui, are likely to form the New Zealand team for the Intercolonial Match and Major Strong, an old shot in Sydney, has offered them his services as captain. •
