London, Oct. 17. There is great depression in the Glasgow iron trade, due to the acceptance of contracts at low rates. Lord R. Churchill, in a letter to the Press, opposes the formation of a distinct Labor party in the Tory ranks, and declares that the Tories will give practical legislative effect to much of what the labor element demands. Mr Arnold White estimates that there are 500,000 unemployed in London. The Marquis of Ripon has informed the London Labor League that the Government are not favorable to Stateaided emigation, as the colonies require such strict guarantees. Brussels, Oct. 17. The strike of Borinage miners is collapsing. New York, Oct. 17. Mr Andrew Carnegie declares that the industrial outlook in Great Britain is dark, and that the United States are easily able to undersell her manufactures, Sydney, Oct. 17. A mob took possession of the principal street in Broken Plill on Saturday night and severely maltreated a number of free labourers. Adelaide, Oct. 18. The ship-owners here endorse the action of Victorian owners in the present shipping difficulty.
