TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), C. Bisset, W. Snell, a id J. Woodhead. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : From Mr W. Hawke, asking the board to give him permission to cut the crop oil a road at Orari, near Mr Bisset's, when ripe.—The board not having any crop could not give any permission to cut fie same.—ln reply to Mr Woodhead it was stated that the road was an unused one and in the same position as many o'bers in the district.—[Mr Bisset retired •wliile this letter was considered.] From the clerk to the Geraldine County Council advising that the instalments in respect of Timaru Harbor and Hospital and Charitable Aid rates were now due, and requesting payment. From Mr John Jackson, quoting sizes and prices of totara timber in stock The overseer to arrange for a supply. From Mr Somerville, relative to rates on Dinda Farm, and requesting that his name might be put on the roll in respect of the same.—The clerk to arrange. From the Representation Commissioners, stating that they believed they would be meeting the wishes of the majority of the electors in retaining the name of Pareora for the new electorate. From the Levels Road Board, declining to take action in the matter of endorsing motion re electorate. From the Geraldine Town Board stating that the board had already taken action re the olectoral district, and expressing willingness to co-operate. A letter already forwarded to the commissioners was also enclosed. —The matter being already settled, no further action was taken. From the Mendelson Trustees, asking that the name of Mr T. S. Taylor be placed on the roll in respect of property now owned by him, being R.S. 28456, Orari. overseer's report. The overseer's report was as follows: — « To the Chairman. " Sir., —I have the honor to report for the past month as follows : Tenders have been invited for Contracts 43 and 44 forming footpath at Winchester, and making a ford and cutting on the road from Spur Hut to Rangitira Valley Eoad. During the month Contract No. 39, cleaning part of the Canal drain, and No. .40, repairing road through Ruddenklau's Island, have been completed and passed for payment. The hollows on MacdOnald's Road, between Rolleston's Road" and "Badham's Road have been filled, and other small jobs attended to. A supply of pipes is required. Rates : £729 lis 7d of this year's rates have been collected to date. The writing on the notjce-board at the pound is almost illegible, and the board itself is considerably warped and cracked. The cost of a new board, including painting and writing, will be about £ —. —I have, etc., "F. Archer." It was decided to procure pipes required, and to have the notice-board at the pound repainted. TENDERS. The following tenders were received for— Contract No. 43—Forming footpath at Winchester: T. Davis, £lO 10s; P. O'Mara, £ll lis. Contract No. 44—Cutting and ford at Waitohi: T. Davis, £23 16s ; P. O'Mara, £23.

Both tenders being in excess of the amount the board was prepard to expend, were" declined, and the overseer was instructed to invite fresh tenders for No. 43, and was authorised to arrange for the carrying out of necessary work in naaking a passable ford at Waitohi.

ACCOUNTS.

Accounts amounting to £361 14s Bd, including contributions to Timaru Harbor Board and Charitable Aid, were passed for payment. SMALL BIRDS' NUISANCE. Mr J. Woodhead brought up the question of the small birds, and suggested that the board should commence to lay poison on the roads or to purchase eggs. Members talked the matter over. The expense was considerable, but seeing that other boards were still taking action it was thought better to ' co-operate with them. Ultimately it was resolved — " That the board devote the sum of £SO towards the purchase of heads and eggs." The meeting then terminated.
