GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening last and attended by Messrs A. White (chairman), Dunlop, Williams, A. Sherratt, Maslin, Mundell, and Hammond. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :
From the Representation Commission, re the board's suggestion that the jmme of Rangitata electorate be changed to Geraldine, and that the Rangitata River be the boundary of the district. The Commissioners considered the name Rangitata is more suitable for the electorate than Geraldine, and it will accordingly be retained. From the County Council, Timaru, informing the board that the second instalment of the rate for 1891 of the Harbor Board is due, also the, board's contribution to the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board of £7 Is 4d.—lt was agreed to pay the £7 Is 4d ; and enquiries be made as to amount due to the Harbor Board account.
From Mr W. Shiers, asking to have his name substituted for that of his wife's On the rate roll as occupier. of town section No. 153.—Granted. From Mr Michael O'Halloran, asking to have the name of Thomas Stocker placed on the roll.—Mr Stocker's consent to be obtained. From Mr J. Euffey, stating that he had grubbed and ploughed gorse and broom on section leased by him, and asking for board's grant.—The board's grant of £lO to be paid. REPORTS. The ranger reported on stray cattle, and it was resolved to instruct the ranger to keep a strict look out for cattle, particularly at the upper end of the town. The overseer's report on works completed was read, and it was left to the Works Committee to see that a former resolution of the board with respect to a gate at Mr Morrison's section be carried out. TENDERS. Tenders were received for asphalting and top dressing the footpaths were received as follows :—T. Maloney, £65; C. E. Sherratt, £59 12s 6d; W. Fly, £4O. —lt was agreed to accept Mr Fly's tender, and failing his taking up the contract, the next lowest be accepted. RATES. It was agreed to summons all persons failing to pay their rates. UNREGISTERED DOGS. It was decided to instruct the inspector to summons at once any persons who have unregistered dogs in their possession. The chairman was empowered to obtain prices and obtain an immediate supply of dog collars, and have old ones rebadged. ACCOUNTS. The pay sheet amounted to £lßl4s, and accounts amounting to £lB 4s 7d were passed for payment. THE WATER RACE. Mr Williams moved, and Mr Dunlop seconded —" That the present dry water channel be put in order and water be run down as usual." Mr Hammond proposed, and Mr Mundell seconded—" That the race remain as it is."—The amendment was carried. The meeting terminated.
