PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH, GERALDINE STATION.
The quarterly meeting of the above ■was held in the churchj|at Temuka on Monday last, when all the officials of the station were present. The usual routine business was gone through and some special matters attended to. An invitation was unanimously given to, and accepted by, the Rev. W. C. Wood, to regain another year, and the various officers were elected. The session being closed, at 6.30 a goodly number sat down to a tea kindly provided by the ladies of the congregation, and presided over by Misses F. Brogden and Woodley. The public meetmg was largely attended, considering the inclemency of the weather. Proceedings were commenced by singing "Praise Ye the Lord," and prayer by Rev. W. C. Wood. Mr W. Smith was called upon to take the chair, and he remarked that he had great pleasure in meetmg so many on that occasion, and in a short address asked all to look hopefully to the future, for better times were coming. Mr J. M. Sutherland then gave the quarterly station report, which showed that the income was about £3O, and the expenditure about £34 10s, a small deficiency being shown. The choir then sang hymn 391 from Sankey and Moody's collection, and Miss F. Brogden gave a recitation. Mr Bates addressed the meeting, urging all to go forward. Mrs Bates gave a solo, which was nicely rendered. Mr J. B. Epps gave a reading, "What Drink did," and Miss Katie Wood (Christchurch) gave a recitation. The Rev. W. C. Wood addressed the meeting, taking " Hope " for his subject, showing that when people were hopeless they were desponding and helpless, but when hopeful it made difficulties vanish away, He then produced the plans of the new church, and urged upon all to help, and then the work would be done. The plans are skilfully drawn up. They were prepared and presented to the Church by Mr Jas. Blyth, to whom the congregation are greatly indebted for his kind action. Hymn 461 was then sung. Mr C. E.Sherratt addressed the meeting on " Sunday School Teachers' work," taking for his text the word. " Cake." Master B. Metson and Miss A. Woodley gave recitations. A vote of thanks to the ladies was moved by Mr Wood and carried. The choir then sang hymn 60 (Sahkey's collection), and the chairman pronounced the benediction. The choir, which is only now being organised under the leadership of Mr J. Woodley, and Mrs Epps as organist, rendered its part very successfully, and bids fair to be a great help to the Church. The meeting was one of the most successful of this description ever held in Temuka.
