"FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES.”
XO THE BDITOK. Sir,—The present chairman of the Winchester School Committee informed the public not long ago in the columns of your paper that the committee intended to fully report their proceedings in the ! public prints. That being so, and Mr Carston being himself a colonial, and a most popular tradesman to boot, perhaps he will kindly explain the so-called " financial difficulty " which he states the committee, after a thorough investigation, were compelled to "drop." The man in the street whispers that the sum of £3 19s 6d collected some two years ago from the householders for a children's treat and prize fund has not been accounted for, and other defalcations connected with the last concert are also spoken of. Does Mr Carston wish the pnblic to understand that in thus compounding an alleged felony he is the " Simon Pure" he sets himself up to be '! The public demand from the present chairman and his six colleagues the true facts of this smothered "financial difficulty." Let the saddle be put on the right horse, and the full particulars be made clear. Nothing less will satisfy the British public— I am, etc., Guardian.
