Sydney, Sept. 17. Mr Howe, member for Bourke, has been arrested on a sharge of obtaining £690 by fradulent pretences in his capacity as a director of the Australian Guarantee Bank. Melbourne, Sept. 19, There has been an extraordinary religious revival in Geelong during the week, and a Christian Convention has been held, with immense congregations at the services. Yesterday the enthusiasm was almost delirious, with laughing and weeping fervour. The collection amounted to £ISOO. Some of the congregation gave their watches, while others gave jewellery of every description, and in some cases title deeds of property were given. General Booth received an immense ovation on his arrival, and thousands were unable to gain admission to the Exhibition Building, where the reception was held. Hobart, Sept. 18. General Booth, who was a passengerfrom the Cape by the Tainui, has landed here, no demonstration being made whatever, but the Hon. H. S. Bird, Colonial Treasurer, presented him with an address of welcome. The General left almost immediately for Melbourne. Negotiations for the amalgamation of the Bank of Van Diemen’s Land with the National of Tasmania are suspended, owing to the obstacles presented by the Government,
