MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the board was held on Friday last at the Road Board Office, Peel Forest. Present—Messrs R. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, and G. J. Dennistoun. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Tripp was voted to the chair.
CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :
From Mr R. Thew, apologising for his absence from the meeting of the board; also requesting that his name be taken off the rate roll for sections 17487, 17692, etc., and the name of Mr Thomas Blair substituted.—The clerk to obtain Mr Blair's consent to the alteration.
From the Commissioner of Property Tax, stating that a voucher had been forwarded to the Treasury for the payment of balance of subsidy on rates collected for the year 1890-91. From tho Treasury, advising the board that the sum of £3l 5s had been placed to its credit with the Union Bank of Australia in payment of balance of subsidy on rates.
From the Manager Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, intimating that the board's fixed deposit, maturing on the 28th ult., had been renewed for a further period of 12 months. From Mr G. J. Hamilton, requesting permission to plough up a gravel reserve in one of his paddocks, fronting on- the 'Clayton road.—Permission was granted upon the condition that permanent marks be put up at the corners to enable the reserve to be found when required.
From the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, in reference to the suggestions made by the members of the board to be introduced into the Sheep Driving Act. From Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, in reference to the same matter.
From the Levels Road Board, in reference to obtaining an exchange of road line on the Raihcliff side of the Opihi river for the convenience of settlers on the Levels side of the river.— Resolved: "That if the Levels Road Board will undertake to pay all expenses connected with the exchange of road lines this board will form the new road and afterwards keep it in repair."
From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, forwarding plans of lands let on perpetual lease, with schedule of amounts accrued thereon, and requesting to he furnished with a list of roads proposed to be formed for the benefit of such lands, ' the nature of the works, and estimate of the cost of the same.—The clerk was instructed to furnish, the information required, and refer the Commissioner to board's letter of the 18th of May last; also to state that the road lines leading to sections 36093 and 3G094 as at present surveyed will be -of little benefit, owing to . steep grades on them, but a good road could be got to both sections by a deviation of road lineß, and ask if the Land . Board would consent to moneys accruing from these sections being spent on* obtaining such deviation under the Public Works Act. . *
MOTION TO KESCIND. The motion to rescind the resolution passed on 15th May last, notice of which had been given by Mr Thew at last meeting, was discussed, and it was proposed by Mr Mackay, seconded by Mr Tripp, and earned—" That that resolution passed on the 15th May last, charging ratepayers whom the board supply with poisoned wheat the price of the grain, be rescinded."
ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £5714s 5d were passed for payment. The board then adjourned.
