INTERESTING TO FARMERS.

Soke time ago we advistd farmers to go in heavily for. wheat growing in the coning year. We find our opinion confirmed by advices from Home. The North Otago Time* says the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received a letter from the bead office in London, suggesting that as much grain as possible should ha grown next year, as the price is sure to be good. We think wa ought to get credit for gusging the position in a manner that was supported by such a high authority, having the best possible information at its command, and consequently we feel bolder now in repeating the advice. The worst of it is that the weather still keeps very dry and that ploughing cannot be carried on as comfortably as could be desired. Still it appears to us that farmers ought not let slip the opportunity which appierently offers itself, but strain every possible point to have a good supply of wheat for the market next year. We also pointed out to farmers recently the possibility of being able to send potatoes to the London market, and we should like to see them taking action in the matter. We again repeat that that the best thing to do is to form a company with a small capital in order to test the practicability of the proposal. By doing this a properly equipped vesssl should be secured, and ;a fair trial given to the proposal, but such an undertaking would be too great a risk for one man. Apples have been sent Home in good condition, North Island potatoes sent Home sold at the rate of £l4 a ton, and we think these facts out to tempt the people of this district to take action in the matter. If potatoes could be successfully placed on the London market it would be better for this district than a gold mine.
