GERALDINE FLAT SCHOOL.
The concert and dance held in this schoolroom on Friday night in aid of the school funds was a complete success, the room was crowded to the door, The bare Ippkiag walls of the building bad been covered with a profusion of floral decorations. The chair was occupied by Mr D- Shaw, chairman of the school committee. A very long programme bad been prepared and a start was made with it shortly after eight o’clock, Miss L Hawke contributing a pretty overture on the piano. Mrs E. J. Guy gave the audience a treat with the song ‘ That was not my fault was it ?’ The same lady had to respond to an encore for her capital singing of * No Sir,’ and gave ‘Within a mile of Edinboro Towp/ A number of t]ie school Children, who'* had been carefully trained by Mr Connor, sang the glee ‘ My native land ’ very prettily. Tliey also rendered ‘ Hail gentle spring,’ ‘ Lightly row,’ and • The ship,’ in a manner that showed that a great deal of time and attention had been giyen to their training, Mr McCaskill’s vendition of the song ‘ Queen of the earth ’ was much appreciated. He also contributed ‘The Battle of Sterling,’ which was one of the best pieces of the eyening. Mum F- Hawke received a well deserved round of prolonged applause for her effective singing of ‘ The peacemaker,’ Mr J. Colbert was recalled for his singing of the comic song ‘ A bonnie wee window/ and responded with ‘ The old tom cat/ I The same gentleman also contributed
‘ McCarthy,’ and as an encore ‘ There’s bound to be a row.’ Mr J. Allan’s comic song * Always up to Dtck, was loudly encored, and he gave ‘ Get away closer.’ He nlso contributed the comic song ‘ Urn um.' Miss Andrews was very successful! with the song ‘ Five o’clock in the morning Her rendition of ‘ Three old maids of Leeds* secured her a unanimous encore, and she gave the pretty song ‘Anchored.’ An instrumental duet, (piano), by the Misses Qimson was an enjoyable item, Mr Connor contributed the comic reading * How I washed my dog.’ Miss McShane contributed a pretty little pianoforte overture. Miss Scobbie sang the national song ‘ The dear little Shamrock.’ A dialogue between Misses F. Hawke, Shaw, and Grattan was rendered very effectively. \ recitation entitled * Meddling,’ by Miss Bell, a small child was very pleasingly given and deserved the applause it received. Mias Shaw also contributed some pretty selections on the piano. The concert was concluded witk a pianoforte duet by the Misses Gimson, after which the usual votes of thanks were accorded to those who had assisted with the gathering. A dance was held afterwards, the room being packed.
