STRIKE IN THE AUCKLAND BOOT TRADE.
Auckland March 26,
The Bootmakers’ Union held a meeting to consider a letter from the manufacturers rejecting the proposal scale for an increase of pay, and suggesting that a conference ha held on the subject. About 300 were present. The following resolution was passed;—“That this union declines to enter into any further correspondence with the Auckland BootJMannfacturerti’ Association re the proposed local statement for increased pay, and that we decide to stand or fall by the statement already submitied as printed.” The result of tins decision is that the men employed by thobe who refuse to sign the statement
went out on strike to-day. Eleven factories are involved. The Boot Machinist* 1 Union decided to support the Operative Bootmakers’ Union in the present dispute. it is stated 'hat telegrams have been received from southern centres offering emp'oymeat to go south.
