Jackson at the last meeting ot the charitable aid board re G-eraldine being a defaulting board. Also to caution him to be more careful in future as to hew he left his horse unattended, as he rendered himself liable to a fina of I £5. The works committee were authorised to repair the fence opposite Mr Pizzey's, if necessary. It was also decided to take up the battens on the inside of the asphalt. WATER ALONG JOLLIE STREET. I The chairman reported that he had, in company with Mr Mundell and the overseer, inspected Jollie street with a view to running a stream of water from the race down it, as as&ed for by the residents in the street. They found that to connect the channel with the race a deep cutting would have to be made through several private properties, or the race would have to be run through Messrs Mundell and Co.'s saleyards, in which case it would need piping for the whole of the distance, The water would only benefit a very few places, and even then they would not be able to take it into their gardens without carrying it in buckets. In the event of a fire the whole block could easily be reached by the hose, and the committee did not feel justified in spending so much of the ratepayers' money at this spot for the purpose of enabling one or two persons to water their gardens. DOG-TAX COLLECTOR. Mr Hiskens waß appointed collector of the dog tax for the district. OVERDUE rates and rents. The clerk reported that the rates were coming in slowly. The overseer was instructed to notify to owners ot such that they must be kept out of the race, or the board would take action in the matter. ACCOUNTS.
