GERALDINE DOMAIN BOARD.
A meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening. Present Messrs A. White (chairman), W. S. Mashn. J. Williams, A. Hammond, and J' Mundell. ANOMCAN PICNIC. A request from the Anglican Church to hold a picnic in the small park on Thursday next was granted. THE IA.TE FIRE IN THE BUSH. The chairman reported what had been done with regard to the late fire in the bush.
On the proposition of Mr Mundell his action was approved of.
A vote of thanks was accorded the fire brigade for their services, and a donation of £5 to their funds passed. It was decided to give Is 6d per hour for working at the fire daring the day, and 2s per hour for night work. It was decided that the finance committee and Captain Walton should on the following morning go over the i claims sent in.
Captain Walton and Lieutenant Winefield, of the fire brigade, who were present by request, drew attention to the fact that some of the employers of labor wenld not let their hands, who were members of the brigade, get away when the bell rang. If such was going to be the case, a»d the employers would not work with the brigade, the latter would have to fall through. Lieutenant Winefield also said that he hod spoken i;o some of the other employers, and they had said that if the members of the board would not let their hands away to a fire they would not do so either. It was decided that the member of the board who refused to let his men away when the bell rang be written to and asked for a full explanation as to why he refused to allow his men to go to the fire when the bell rang. It was decided to call tenders for cutting into posts, stakes, and firewood, the trees cut down or injured while the fire wss burning. The works committee and chairman to accept a tender at once. grazing. The chairman and the finance committee were authorised to arrange with the bank for an overdraft to allow the claims in connection with the fire to be paid. BULL IN PAEK. The chairman reported that he had» as authorised, spoken to Mr Pearpoint, about the dangerous bull kept by him in the park. Mr Pearpoint had replied that the board having leased the park to him they could not compel him to remove the bull, and he should not do so. It was pointed out that the ball being in the park was a contravention of clause 5 of by-law 5 of the board's bylaws. It was decided to give Mr Pearpoint notice that the bull must be removed, and failing his compliance with the notice to compel him to remove it. This being all the business the meeting terminated.
