London, Dec. 8. Mr Parnell retains the control of the Parliamentary fund, which amounts to £20,000, and proceeds to Ireland to reorganise the National party. Those who seceded from Mr Parnell propose to establish a daily paper in Ireland, and continue the payment of the members of the Irish Parliam ntary party. Messrs O’Brien and Dillon appprove of Mr'Justin McCarthy’s appoitrmmt to the leadership, and urge that the unity of the party sbou'd hi restored. It is reported they intend returning to England, Ihe Times referring to S*tnrd»y’s meeting of the Irish party states tho the dissension and violence exhibited has full» justified tha most sinis’er predictions > regarding to Dish Legislature.
t The Press considers that as the Irish party has ceased to represent a majority pf the people, the conflict will now be removed to Ireland, ! The speeders from Mr Parnell number 45, and his adherents 26. Mr Parnell >s preparing to stump Ireland. Dec. 8. ; The speeders from the Parnell party have subscribed £IOOO to assist those members whose salaries have been Slopped. They intend to s'ump Ireland. Sydney, Dec. 9. At a meeting of tbe-Newcastle branch of the National League the proceedings were of a stormy character. A motion that Mr Parnell should be requested to retire from the leadership of the Parliamentary party was negated in favor of an amendment that the league should await further details.
COMMERCIAL PANIC
Washington, Dec. 7. Incessant fai 1 are rocurr'ng in the United S'ates through the operation Of the McKinley tariff. Yesterday a bankat Meadville, Pennsylvania, fai'ed for a mil ion dollars, Owing to the general depression four other institutions at New Orleans have failed for two and a half millions. Dec. 8. Mr William Wisdom, Secretary of the Treasury, declares hat during his tenure of office he has circulated 100,000,000 silver dollars without effect and he refuses to permit the Treasury to become bankrupt. A panic Has taken place on the New York Stock Exchange, and several latge failures are announced. Commercial paper has been refused on all sides, and an attempt made, to re'y on currency •lone. The Government propose to issus twenty million dollarswdrth of2 percent, bonds. New York is drawing half a million of gold from the Bank of England and one million from the Bank of Franco,
ALLEGED IMPORTANT CURES.
London, Dec, 6. Sir M. McKanzie has pub icly treated a consumptive patient with Dr Koch’s cure. Innebbruck, D-c. 7. A girl of strong physique died here under Dr Koch’s lupus (sic).
A telegram received by the San Francisco mail, dated B-rlin, November I3’h, says : —“According to a despatch from Berlin, November 13 h, Professor Koch has decided not to make pubic the secret of bis inoculation fluid, for fear that incompetent persons might try to make the lymph, and thus oast discredit upon the invention. The particulars were pub'ished to-day of a case of lupus of the face that was treated by Dr Libbertz in Frankfort by Koch’s method. The case is progressing satisfactorily. The first effect of the treatment was to cause the lupus ulcers to swell and discharge liquid, afttr which scabs formed as in eruptive fevers. The doctor will renew the injoiioa when the scabs fall. Minister Yon Gessler has given 200,000 marks for the erection of a special Hospital for the treatment of consumptives by the Koch method. Herzherg, whose neioa has undergone Dr Koch’s treatment for consumption, says patients are able to follow their usual occupations while undergoing the treatment, only it is necessary to, take their temperature three limes daily, owing to the fever caused by the inj ericas of lymph. •
