The Indians are becoming cowed, and if relieved from starvation, will probably quiet down. It ia reported that King Kalakaua, of the Sandwich Islands, will shortly pay a visit to Washington with a view of selling the Islands to the United States Government.

Melbourne, Dec. 7.
A girl of fifteen, living at Macarthur, slept oyer eleven days. She, could be roused and fed, but fell asleep again immediately afterwards. The affection is not cataleptic, Dec. 8. The locusts destroyed whole crops of oats and barley in several districts in one day. Dec. 9. A terrible tragedy is reported from Ballarat. Mr Johnston, a wel -known stock and station first murdered his four childr<n, who were lying asleep in bed by suffocating them; and the deed was carried out so qnielly that the servant girl, who was sleeping in the earns room as the children, was not aroused. Johnston then proceeds 1 to bis wife’s room and shot her through the head. tie then took poison himself. He and his wife lived only fora few minn eg. Johnston’s affsirs are said to be in a prosperous state, and the tragedy is believed to have be n committed during a fit of temporary insanity. The Commissioners of tha late exhibition have made their fical report, in which, they state that they consider the loss justified on the ground that the greater part of the money was spent on artisans within the colony, and '.hey also claim that the great increase in railway receipts might fairly be credited to ibe exhibition. Brisbane, Deo 8. Parliament has prorogued. Deo, 9. An a'most inexhanbible puppy of sapphires has been found near Withers field station on the route of the centra' railway. Adelaide, Dec. 8. In a ma*ch between the Norw>ol Club and South Adelaide, the former scored 627 in one innings. G. Giffen made 296, the highest individual score vet recorded in the colony. Dec. 9. Tbs report of the Railway Commissioners has been presented to Parliament. It shows that the recent strike caused the loss of £35,000 in the revenue of the railways.
