GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening. Present Messrs A. White (chairman), W. S. Maelin, J. Williams, A. Sherratt, and N. Dunlop. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : : From- the secretary of the Fire Brigade, Geraldine, asking permission to hold a torchlight procession and display of fireworks in the town on New Tear’s Eve.—Granted. From Mr C. E. Sherratt, with reference to the articles borrowed by him from the board, pointing out that the same had been returned several months ago.—The chairman and overseer were authorised to see Mr Sherratt and arrange the matter. From Mr E. H. Pearpoint, asking to be allowed to connect a deadhead on his property with the water race by means of aa inch and a half gaspipe. He undertook to put the path in the same condition as before.—The question of deadheads was discussed. The overseer said there would be less waste of water by allowing deadheads through iron pipes to properly constructed deadheads than by people damming the race as at present with bags, Ac., for the purpose of watering their gardens. It was decided to grant Mr Pearpoint’s application on condition that the deadhead was constructed to the satisfaction of the overseer. It was also decided to grant all similar applications free of charge, provided the deadheads were constructed in accordance with a specification to be drawn up by the board, and the work done to the satisfaction of the overseer and chairman.
Mr Dunlop made a similar application, which was granted. Mr T. Herlihy applied to lease a number of the board’s sections, and his tender was accepted. The ranger’s report for the month was read. One or two alterations of names ©n the rate roll were applied for and made. petition. A petition was received from several persons in Jollie street, asking for a branch of the race to be run down that street. Ihe works committee were instructed to inspect the ground and report at the next meeting as to the number of properties to be served, the probable cost of the work, Ac. In connection with this it was remarked that the petitioners were in error when they said they had to pay water rates, as no such rates had been struck. The only rates struck by the board had been general rates.
otebseee’s eepobt. The overseer’s report was read, but necessitated no action being taken. BATE. Mr Mashn moved the proposition standing in his name, that the board proceed to strike a rate of in the £, payable on the 15th December. Mr Williams seconded the proposition, which was carried unanimously. BEQUESTS. Mr White asked the board to grant him a crossing over the race where it ran through his paddock, as it cut off a portion of his crop, and he wished to get a reaper and binder across.— Granted, the overseer to attend to it. Mr Williams asked to be allowed to put a gate across the road at the corner between the large bush park and his property.—Granted on the usual conditions of its being open to the public. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £22 7s 4d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
