The overseer’s report was read— I hare the honor to report for the past month aa follows :
Tenders have been invited for contracts 24 and 35, forming 43 chains of road through Rhodes’ Island, and carting 800 cubic yards of shingle on road near Mr A. L. Barker's. Contract No. 30, reforming part of Rangitira Valley road, is completed, with the exception of about one day’s work. Contract No. 34, cutting flix, etc., on road through reserve, is completed. Contract No. 29, reforming p»rt of Kirk’s road, is being proceeded with satisfactorily. Contract No. 31 : The contractor for this work has made but very little progress during the month, athough the time for completion of the work has expired. The time for which contract No. —, carting shingle for repairs, was taken has expired, and a cheque baa been drawn as final payment for this work. Re road applied for by Messrs Clark, Austin, and others : This road has been formed by cutting a large drain on the north side of the road reserve. The drain for the greater part of its length has been sunk down to the shingle, and the formation consists of peat, with a small quantity of clay and shingle in some places. The best way to improve this road would be to deepen the drain about one foot, and spread the shingle on the road. To do this from Mr Austin’s section to Rolleston’a road, a distance of 106 chains, the cost would probably be about £ , During the month shingle repairs have been done to Rangitira Valley road ; culverts have been put in Kirk’s road ; water-tables at Winchester have been attended to, and drains applied for by Messrs Grant and Tarrant have been cleaned, Several of the reserves planted by the board, and others used for shingle pits, require the fences trimming and repairing, and gorsa spreading in these reserves requires grubbing. Of this year a rate £469 4s 7d has been collected to data, leaving u balance of £597 I2s 5d ■ m standing. A new pound feook is required. F. Archer.
Kesolved—That the work required to shingle road from Austin’s to Eolleston’s road is too costly; orer-
seer to make arrangements with Mr Austin to improve the diainage and to effect some little repairs along the whole line of road, total cost not to exceed £25. That work required to reserves be done; Commissioner or Crown Lands to be notified. TENDERS. Tenders were received and dealt with as fellows:— Contract No. 34—Shingling near Mr A. L. Barker’s—T. Davis, Is 6d per yard; W. Hopkinson, Is 4d per yard ; E. Counihan, Is 3|d per yard ; T. Leonard, la 3|d per yard; T. Brosnahan, Is (accepted).
