The annual statutory meeting of the Geraldine County Council was held on Wednesday. Present —Messrs W. Balfour, B. A. Barker, M, Quinn, and W. B, Howell. Apologies were read from Messrs J. M. Barker and R. Maekay. Mr Balfour was unanimously reelected chairman. Messrs Balfour and Howell were reappointed to represent the council on the High School Board, and Messrs R. A. Barker, J. M, Barker, J. Jackson, and M. Quinn, representatives on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. against the proposal of a member of the Timaru Borough Council, that the Mayor of Timaru should always be chairman.

Tenders were opened for repairs to the Geraldine bridge: W. W. Waters, £268 15s (accepted); W. Fletcher, £289 10a; D. Maekay, £298 Is 4d. A memo, was received from the Colonial Secretary, approving of the application for a loan for £3OOO for water supply on Waitohi Flat, and a resolution was passed that the engineers proceed with the surreys, and notice be given of a motion to strike a rate to provide interest and sinking fund.

Three applications for small diversions of races on the Seadown were granted. On a letter from Mr DeEenzy, pointing out the danger of heavy traction engine loads breaking down the Winchester bridge, recently restored after much difficulty and at considerable cost, Mr Howell gave notice to amend the by-law relating to traction engines so as to make it apply to all bridges. It was resolved to advertise for 1200 dog collars, and, in view of the reduced tax, to ask sub-registrars t® accept 6d per collar instead of Is as heretofore.

The ranger on Geraldine Flat, in reply to a complaint, wrote that the main races had been well supplied with water, and if there were any branches short, it could only have been through someone taking off water for irrigating. Mr Barker gave notice to move that the outside business of the council be altered, his intention being to propose the appointment of a permanent overseer of works. The council then adjourned.
