ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
A man named William Rose, cook at Siefert’s flax works, GHentui, was accidentally drowned in the Ashley, near Glentui, on Sunday evening. He was wading across the stream from the Oust side, and fell and was never seen again alive. His body was found three miles down the si ream.
On Saturday night a man named Duncan Gordon, a farm hand employed at Flemington, died at the cottage at Flemingtou Dairy Factory, from the effects of falling off hia dray when on his way home from Ashburton that night. A remarkable accident happened to the coacbfrom WeatOoast to Springfield on Saturday night, A gale was blowing and when in the neighborhood of the Springs a telegraph pole broke off near the ground and the wires fell across the coach. Two passengers, who were on the roof of the coach, Mr D. Mcßeatb, of Greymouth, and Mr Malcolm,were thrown on to the ground violently and were rendered unconscious. Fortunately they escaped with a severe shaking and a number of bruises
On Monday J. Stevens, employed at Mr C. Chinnery’sfUx mill, Rangiora, was passing about the mill with a
hank of tow, when the tow caught on a moving belt and became entangled. Stevena received such injuries that it was deemed expedient to amputate the forearm.
A body, identified as thatof Donovan, who was drowned in the Rangitikei river on the 3rd iust., was discovered on Tuesday near the mouth of the river.
A man named Albert Spackman was killed on the Opaki road,., near Mastertoa, Wellington, on Tuesday morning by a dray load of furniture falling over an embankment.
