FOOTBALL.
WAIHI SECOND V. TEMUKA SECOND.
These two clubs met to try conclusions at "Winchester on Saturday last. The weather waß grand, just a shade too hot for football. Owing to the contestants having a win each to their credit a deal of interest was centred in the game. Blissett cap-
tained the home team and D. MeCaskill the visitors. Blissett won the toss and decided to defend the western goal. The game commenced very fast, and after some give and take play it waß easily seen that the visitors were too much for their opponents. The Waihi backs playing well together D. Cameron took the ball from a pass and carried it right down to the Temuka goal line, where he was pushed out of touch, a force down | resulting. The. visitors now got on their metal and Chaße got a try, which was not allowed. During the next few minutes Henry, Goldstone, and Chase got over, but no goal resulted from any of the tries. One of the Temuka three-quarters had, unfortunately, to retire, having twisted his ankle. At the call of half tim« the ball was in Waihi's 25. Blissett sent the leather rolling again, and the Waihi forwards playing well together the ball was taken into Temuka's 25, when liogan took the leather and made a grand run, getting the fourth try for Temuka. No goal resulted. The Waihi forwards now took the ball well down the field, aud South got away and got behind just as he was grassed by Eussell. The angle being difficult no goal resulted. During the next few minutes Blissett and Cameron made good runs, but the Temuka three-quarters were too good for them. The play during the remainder of the spell was on "Waihi's territory, and of little interest, and the game concluded with: Temuka,4 points; Waihi, 1. The Temuka forwards played well, and it would be hard to pick the best. Q-oldstone, Kroon, Henry, and MeCaskill were perhaps most to the front. Duncan (a new man) will make a capital player with practice- The backs played well, as the scoring will tell, Eobinson being the pick. McLean deserves credit for bis plucky collaring. Of the Waihi forwards South, Coles, and Howe played the best, and Blissett, Cameron, and Moore were the pick of the backs. The game was played in excellent 8 pint* •
