VISIT OF BISHOP JULIUS TO GERALDINE.

A large and influential meeting was held in the library of the Mechanic’s Institute, Geraldine, yesterday, for the purpose of making arrangements for the reception of Bishop Julius, who purposes visiting Geraldine, The Rev. Jas. Preston, Incumbent of Geraldine, occupied the chair, and among those present were Mesdames Preston, *Pish, Hawkins, and E. H. Postlethwaite. The chairman read the correspondence he had received from the Bishop’s secretary, stating that His Lordship wonld visit Geraldine on Monday next, arriving by the express from Christchurch and staying over the following day. The chairman thought something in the nature of a public reception should be given, but as the Bishop could not stay over the Sunday it would be impossible to get a service on the occasion of his present visit. He asked for suggestions. After discussing the matter it was decided that the churchwardens and as many other members of the church as could make it convenient to attend should meet the Bishop at Orari on his arrival. It was further decided that a public reception should be accorded him in the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Tuesday evening, and that members of all denominations and societies be invited to be present. A sub - committee censisting of Messrs IT. Wilson Smith, Hawkins, Pearpoint, White, H. W. Moore, and W. Will, with power to add to their 1 number, was appointed to make all arrangements. It was decided not to admit children under 12 years of age. The ladies agreed to provide tea for those who came from a distance. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
