Temuka—Saturday, March 8, 1890

[Before A. M, Clark, Esq., J.P.] BBUNKENNESS. A first offender, charged with drunkenness, Was dismissed with a caution. Joseph Turner, alias Tichborne, also charged with drunkenness, was remanded to Timaru for a week for medical treatment. George Eatnsay, for drunkenness and haying no lawful means of support, wasrremanded until Monday. c'. Mono at, March 10, 1890. [Before J. T. M. Hayhurat and M. Quinn, Esqs., J.P.’s.] inebeiate. An.aged female was charged with being drunk in the railway yard on the'sth inst. ' Constable Egan proved the offence. Accused was dismissed with a caution. DEUNKENNESS AND VAGEANCX. Geo. Ramsay, on remand from the Bth inst., was charged with being drunk and disorderly in the public street on Friday night last. He was also further charged with having no lawful visible means of support. The arresting constable stated that he heard accused’s voice in an angry manner at a quarter to eleven on Friday night last. He was the worse for drink. He arrested him, and he had been lodged in the lock-up since Friday night. On the second, count Constable Morton stated that the prisoner had ipome out of gaol last December. Had at first kept quiet and behaved himself. Latterly he had been hanging on to anyone, and although offered work had refused to accept same. He was a' general nuisance. He had no regular place of abode,. but slept about anywhere. He,was well able to work, but would not^start to do so. By accused : Me Clark offered you work. I do not know of a shilling you owe. Accused stated that he had earned several sums of money since be had left the gaol. Constable Egan gave corroborative evidence. Had told accused he had better keep away from town. He was very intimate with Tichborne and others. The bench considered the charges proved, and accused was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labor. c, ' • BREACH OS THE PEACE. : Michael John, Rooney, charged with having committed a breach a breach of the peace,-on the Bth inst., pleaded not guilty. Constable Egan stated that on Saturday evening he beard a row in the direction of the Star Hotel. Accused was making- a disturbance and fighting. He was a continual source of- annoyance. He arrested him and took him to the lock-up. Accused was the aggressor. John Angland, licensee of the Star Hotel, stated that accused came to his house on; Saturday- i evening and commenced kicking 5 up a. row with three different people. He used very bad language, and witness had to eject him three times. To accused Tour language was very, bad, rand could -be heard in the public street. Accused commenced to make some rambling defence, hut the Bench considered the case clearly proved, and fined him 20s, or in default 7 days. ANOTHEE CASE. Another inebriate, a stranger, charged with being drunk and disorderly, and who had been arrested by Constable Egan, was dismissed on condition that he cleared out from the town at once. CIVIL CASES. G. H. Mogridge v. J. Ferguson— Claim 19s 6d,-- Mr Salmond for plaintiff. Judgment by default for amount claimed and costs. Geo, Cliff v. John Blissett—Claim £Q 8s 2d. This was a claim for oats sold. The price was to have been Is 6d per bushel cash, or at the market rate when paid for, The price then rose
