CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending-Friday ; The bulk of the harvest is now safe in stack, and the small proportion still out will be carted in within the next few days. Farmers can congratulate themselves on the exceptionally favorable weather- prevalent during harvest -time, Wheat—A steady demand for old at late prices continues, but buyers are chary of making large purchases of new until more time has been given for the maturing of the grain in stack. We may expect this disinclination to purchase to prevail. Oats—Old are not offering in any quantity, and there are no buyers of new except at prices which growers will not accept. It is difficult to predict what will he the ultimate outlet for this cereal. Barley —bamples are offering more freely, but there is a difficulty in doing business, as buyers’ and sellers’ ideas of value have not come together. It is pleasing to [notice that more attention has been given to threshing, the samples on offer showing a marked absence of broken and thin grains. So far the parcels offering are not up to the usual standard. Peas—Prussian blues (hand-threshed) are wanted, but for the wrinkled varieties (garden) there appears to be little or no demand, and the only outlet is export to London. Grass Seed Rye (farmers) is offering m small parcels only, and remains at quotations, with a good enquiry. Cocksfoot is coming into the market but slowly. Bright bold seed is enquired for, but the samples offering are lighter than growers anticipated, and are bad in color. Dairy Produce—Butter is but in poor demand, and prices are unaltered.
