A land agent at Cambridge, named I John Wilson, has filed a petition of insolvency. His debts, secured and unsecured, amount to £12,488. A fire broke out in the store room of the engine house at the Invercargill water works on Wednesday, and damage to the amount of £2OO was done. At Heathcote, Christchurch, on Wednesday, a four-roomed house belonging to J, Gilbert was burned; insurances, £175, Mr bayer, the dairy expert who has been engaged at the Dunedin Exhibition, is about to make a tour of the southern factories. It is estimated that the work awaiting the new Native Commissioners will occupy them at least five or six years. r ihe Agent-General states, in reply to assertions that N.Z. flax is being used for some new secret purpose, that it is only used for cordage and binder twine.
