THE BOULANGER PROSECUTION.
Paris, August 13. The Council of State has decided that General Boulanger is ineligible as Consul-General, and declared- his seat vacant;- ‘ ■ ns u August 15. ThftiHigli Court by a majority of 206 found General Boulanger guilty of conspiracy, and by 198 to 10 convicted him of treason. Count Dillon and M. Rochefort were found guilty of complicity. General Boulanger, Count Dillon, and M, Rochefort was sentenced to imprisonment for life in a fortress. The European Press regvrd the matter as a perfectly political trial. London, August 18.
General Boulanger asserts that his convictioii is the result of a Corrupt compact between the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the purpose of preserving the latter’s existence, fie is confident that the result of the general election' will reverse the verdict. He denies that lie etnbezz'ed 120,000 francs, and says the money was expended by his shn-in-law, Captain Briant, bn disabled soldiers.
