SHOCKING MURDERS.
London, July 17. The mutilated body of a prostitute was found under a gas lamp in Castle Alley, Whitechapel, at one o'clock this morning. No arrest has been made. " Jack tha Ripper" recently informed the police that he would begin operations again in July, and the recent murder in Whitechapel is consequently attributed to him. The woman waß about forty years of age and has ' not yet been identified. The clothos round the! abdomen were gashed; but the body was intact, Her throat was cut. The murderer had evidently been disturbed at his ghastly work, and had fled. A constable passed the spot five minutes previously, Two hundred police now form a cordon round the district, Melbourne, July! 18. The 1 body of a woman named Annie Thornton was discovered in a cottage in the city, and there is little doubt that a murder has been committed. From the appearance of the'corpse it is oleir thst the murder took place quite a week ago. The police are making inquiries,! but as yet have oo clae to theperpetratois,
