At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transfiiCtod * — Fat Cattle—Only 126 head were yarded, nob more than one-third of this number being good, the rest little better than forward stores. For the best pens there was a slight advance, but medium and inferior cattle were almost unsaleable. Best bullocks brought from £7 to £8 15s ; medium and inferior, from £6 to £8 15s; best cows, from £6 to £7 7s 6d; others, from £5 10s to £2.—John Grindley sold for Mr Jas. Guild (Trevenna), 6 bullocks at £8 10s to £7 17s 6d. Fat Sheep—The market was well supplied with 3318 sheep, including 230 merino wethers. With one or two exceptions there was a slight decline in values. Best crossbred wethers brought from 15s 3d to 14s 6d ; ordinary do do, 14s to 12s 6d ; light do do, 12s to 10s; best do ewes, 14s to 12s; ordinary do do, 11s 6d to 10s 6d; light do do, 10s to 8s 6d.-Wright, Stephenson and Co. said for Mr Andrew Grant (Willowbank), 61 prime crossbred ewes from 18s 6d to 12s 3d,—John Grindley sold for the same vendor 62 crossbreds at 13s. Fat Lambs—Only 113 penned, and under good competition they were sold at from 11s 9d to 6s 9d. Pigs—363 penned, about one-half being prime grain-fed bacon pigs. Prices were firm. Bacon pigs (extra heavy weights) sold at from 55s to 655; bacon pigs (ordinary), 42s to 545; porkers, 22s to 345; stores, 17s to 255; suckers, 4a to 11s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS, June 5. A portion of the Bothwell Castle’s wheat cargo has been sold at a price said to equal 4s 6d. The wheat is of fine quality with hard grain, but contains 5 per cent of foreign matter. The price of wheat is‘drooping, owing to the market being overstocked. Chick wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; Hew Zealand milling, 4s 3d to 4s 6d. Hay, Hew Zealand meadow is dull at £5, Butter, inferior sorts are unsaleable; imported dairy made 8d to lOd ; imported newly made by separator and best quality, lOd to Is. The cheese market is glutted at 6d to 7d. Bacon, locally cured, 9d to 9id; Hew Zealand cured, lOd. Hams, New Zealand cured, Is. June 6. A cargo of Californian wheat by the Brynhilda, now due, has been placed under offer. The sellers ask 4s 7-|d. Adelaide, June sd. It is reliably stated here that if wheat shipments continue at the present average the colony will be left without appreciable stocks by the time the new crop is ready. The outlook for the latter is most hopeful. Wheat is dull. Farmers* lot#, at Port Adelaide, 4s 9d; shipping parcels ? IQd. Flour, stone makes, £jLl; roller makes, £l2. Oats, New Zealand, 4s 4d. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,528,000 quarters, and for the Continent 848,000 quarters. The American visible supply is 20,250,000 bushels. The English wheat market has a dpwnward tendency; the Continental market is declining ; the American is depressed.
