TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the TemUka Road Board was held on> Tuesday last. Present—Messrs John Talbot (chairman), C. Bissau, M. Quinn, J, T. M. Hayburst, aud J. Fraser. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £9B 13s 7d were passed for payment, ENCROACHMENT. The chairman stated that on January 16th the clerk to the Geraldine Road Board had written advising that bis beard by resolution agreed to adopt the suggestion of the Temuka Board relative to the encroachment upon the road at Kei'and’a, and that upon formal intimation of the Temuka Board’s agreement to course suggested the portion of land to bs taken from Kellano’s reserve would be pegged off and the work proceeded with. He (the chairman) had authorised the clerk to assent to the same. On the motion of Mr Quinn the chairman’s action was approved of. NEW ROAD. The chairman reported that the committee appointed had visited the new road laid off by Mr Hay hurst, and bad agreed to take over same upon its completion. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was dealt with ; From the Lands Registry Office, asking who had control of R.S. 17,060.—The e'erk bad replied that the section in question was one upon which the Waitohi school stood. From Mr J. B. Wareiog, intimating his acceptance of offer of land on the Canal reserve at 20s per acre rental. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid department, forwarding list of recipients of charitable aid in the Board’s district. From the Minister of Fublic ‘Voiks, notifying that in consequence of the abolition of the Public Works Department all communications on the subject of road works, including all applications to take land by proclamation or other local undertaking, must be forwarded to the Minister of Lands. From the secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Industrial Exhibition, forwarding circular inviting the co-operation of the Board, and also enclosing a subscription list.—The list to bo laid upon the table. From R. Taylor, expresing willingness of himself and others interested to guarantee half the cost of the improvements to be effected near reserve 1400, and asking that the work might be undertaken as early as convenient.—The clerk was instructed to write to the effect that if the work ware at once undertaken it might cost more than the original estimate, and asking the guarantors if in that case they would still be prepared to pay. From Mr J. Robertson, applying for the formation of a portion of road from bis gale to the Kapunatiki creek. The applicant estimated the coat at £5. —Ihe overseer to report at next meeting. From Mr J. K. Qilliatt, requesting that his name might be removed from the roll in respect of property numbered 254 on the roll, Mr Grant having possession of seme.—Agreed to on usual terms. An application from Mr Lewis Scott for shingling of a steep piece of siding near his farm was considered.—The applicant thought about 5 yards of shingle per chain would be sufficient. —The application was granted, the overseer to have the work done. . INTERVIEWS. Mr Christmas waited upon the board la reference to some repairs needed on the Swamp road.—The overseer having reported upon the subject, ha was authorised to get the work done privately if the cost did not exceed £5. Mr Woodhead applied for some timber for the construction of a bridge over the drain leading to a portion of his land.— The application was granted. overseer’s rebort. The overseer made a verbal report upon the protective works at Penny’s road asked for by Messrs Austin and Thomas at the previous meeting. He submitted a sketch of same, but expressed his opinion that there was a danger of the water breaking in behind the works. He suggested as an alternative that the ford should ba protected on its lower side. The latter idea was approved of, and he was ordered to have the work done. The meeting then terminated.
