LABOR TROUBLES.
Newcastle, August 16. A committee of citizens ha? been appointed to bring About a 'settlement of the disputes between coalmastors and miners. Sydney, August 16. Mr Melville, member for Northumberland, has asked liis Excellency the Governor, Lord Garrington, to mediate between the coalmasters and the miners, but, acting on the advice of Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, His Excl ency declined. The coalmasters and miners bare declined to aicept (he mediation of the Chamber of Commerce, A shearing difficulty is reported at Brockington station, where the shearers have severely maltreated tho station hands who refused to join the union. l'h e place is in a state of Binge, and two thousand pounds of ammunition had been sent up. The police are powerless to interfere, Later. A large body of police, fully armed, have been dispatched to Brockington station where a serious difficulty has occurred among the shearers, A num- i ber of sbtarers belonging to the union hare seized several non-unionists and bold them as prisoners.
