Melbourne, August 13. The football ma'ch to-day between the New Zealand Native team and Melbourne resulted io a draw, each side scoring a goal. August 15. A warrant has baen issued for the arrest of a man nam?d Lindesbu*, who is alleged to have committed a series of commercial frauds. A number of firms are said to hava been victimised to the tune of several thousand pounds in making advances on purchases of bogus cargoes of goods. > August 16. Arrived—Tarawera,.from ihu Bluff. Landesbut was arrested to-day, charged with committing • number of commercial frauds. Is is stated that the total amount involved is about £SOOO. Sir James Hector has bten requested to inspect and report on the Gippßland coal fields. Sydney. August 15. A ballot of policy holders in the Australian Mutual Provident Society on 1 the proposal of the directors to establish an officers' provident fund, resulted in favor of the scheme by a majority of fifteen thousand. At Georgetown to-day a row arose between two mpn named Walsh and Kilday, wh«n Walsh drew a revolvnr and shot Kildty, who expired in a few minutes. August 16. Arrived—Wakalipu, from Wellington. On the arrival of tlm s'eamer it wbb discovered that Gasparini, the escapee from New Caledonia, who was sent from Wellington in charge of Detrctive Walker, of Auckland, wbb missing. The cause ot bis disappearance remains a mystery, and it is not known whether he jumped ovorbourd from the vessel, ' 'Brisbane, August 15. The steamer A.fghan, 1439 terns, from Foo-chow to Sydney, with 5000 tons of lea has gone ashore on Cockburn reef, Torres Straits. The fore compartment is full of water and about 500 tons of tea are damaged. It is probable the steamer will be floated off. Perth, Augoit 16. The brig Okenbury, from Mauritius to Dunedin, has put into Freemantle, disabled. After the accident provisions ran short, and the crew subsisted for twelve days on rice. Hobart, August 16. The no-confidence debate on a motion attacking the Government's financial policy is still proceeding.
