GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Bcarc was held on Tuesday evening last Present —Messrs J. Mundell (Chair man), "W. S. Maslin, N. Dunlop J. Williams, W. Berry, and R. Taylor. MISTJTES. The minutes of the previous meek ing were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward was read as follows: From the South British Insurance Company, re insurance of office and shed. —It was decided to arrange the same with the Geraldine agent. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Secretary of the Fire Insurance Association re reduction of the 25 per cent, in the town. overseer's report. The Overseer's report was read and dealt with as follows : Gentlemen, —Since your last meeting the matters ordered to be done have been attended to—namely: (1) the footpath leading from Talbot street along Cox street has been lowered and gravelled; (2) the main street between Messrs Gibson's and Dunlop's has been gravelled, and the water is now forced down the Geraldine Road Waihi Terrace Hoad—A small footpath has been made and gravelled on the western side for the convenience of pedestrians in wet weather, and a few other matters attended to. The cost of the whole has been moderate. The Audit or-General has returned the Board's accounts duly certified as correct, and the accounts have been published, as required by the Act. It will be necessary to strike a rate, as intimated by Mr Quin two months past. The necessary things for the Board to do before striking a rate have been carried out. 'J he receipts for the month have been as follows: Rents, ss; licenses,

£136 sa; dog fees, 18s; total, £137 Bb. C. B. SttERRATT. BATE. On the motion of Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Berry, it wai decided that a rate of 6d in the £ be 8 truck upon all rateable property within the district. ASPHAtTIN*. In order to provide a little work, etc., it was decided that the "Works Committee and Overseer prepare a report relaying an asphalt water-table down the main street. The Clerk was instructed to - write to the Episcopalian, Presbyterian; and lioman Catholic Churches, and ask them to contribute one-half,the cost of asphalting in front of their buildings, and state that the Board will put dowij the keirbing and complete the asphalt. WOB.KB COMMITTEE. Mr Maslin's name was added to the Works "Committee., '"'.'.' RANdER'S'REPORT.'' The town ranger's report upon the cattle found straying in the district was laid upon the table. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £29 9s 4d were passed for payment. LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH. A meeting of this Board was next [ held. The Inspector of Nuisances' [ report waß read, showing the town to be in good sanitary condition. No action, on the same was considered necessary. i DOMAIN BOAHD. A meeting of the Domain Board was then held. MINDTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. PARK GATES. The Chairman stated that he authorised the Overseer to erect oae iron gate (small) at the east corner of the large park, and one at the northeast corner of the small park. The work had been done by one of the surfacemen. The action of the Chairman was approved of. Mr Geo. Ward (the lessee of the large bush reserve) applied for permission to erect a wooden gate at or near the corner near Mr Chapman's. —Granted. The lessee of the small bush park opposite the Presbyterian Church, stated that the large gate and posts were rotten and in a dilapidated state, and required replacing. —The Overseer recommended that two iren gates one large and one small—be erected. —lt was decided to call for tenders for two iron gates, in accordance with the recommendation of the Overseer, the latter to obtain the necessary timber for the posts and picket fence. The Board then adjourned!
