At present the Insurance Association only allowed the sum of £ls towards the support of the Brigade. Mr Mason suggested that the Brigade should submit an estimate of their probable expenditure for the year.

The Chairman thought it unfair that the Fire Association should contribute such a small sum, especially in view of the fact that losses by fire had been rare.

Replying to the Chairman, Captain Henry said that the uniforms and plant were in good order. There was, however, considerable wear and tear of material, aud every fire that occurred caused some little expense.

After some desultory conversation the Chairman said that he would be sorry to see the efficiency of the Brigade impaired by. lackLjof fandis. Mr Coira doubted if pipes would answer the purpose and suggested the laying of a concrete channel which could be easily cleaned. ' Mr Blyth said that probably pipes, with a well at a distance of every two chains, would meet the case. Other members concurred with this jriew, but no resolution was made; It Mas agreed, however, that some improve* ment would have to be effected . previous to the warm weather setting in. . ':.'"
